Yes, I know he’s called “Frankenstein’s Monster” or “Adam”, but that didn’t work as a title, so “Goofy Frankenstein”. This Frankenstein’s Monster is from the 1910 Thomas Edison film, the first movie based on Mary Shelly’s seminal novel and I was inspired to draw it because I saw UK comix artist Dylan Henty’s awesome rendition on Instagram. He’s doing a series of silent horror movie characters just in time for spooky season. Great stuff!
Here’s my take on Goofy Frank…

My version reminds me of Paul Stanley of KISS fame with a bit of Keith Richards thrown in; probably the head band. This is definitely a hair metal monster looking for a party. I drew from the classic image, well, really the only still you see from the short film and it is not like any other Frankenstein’s creature you’ve ever seen. It also doesn’t do the creature justice as he’s much cooler and menacing in the movie.

So there will be more creatures and spooky weirdos to come in the next weeks…
Until then, mind yourself as we wander through the Valley of the Tigers and I’ll see you on the other side.
OK HW

That’s great!
It’s a version of Frankenstein that’s too often overlooked.
