Too Much Yacht Rock

That’s as good of an excuse as any for dropping off my “weekly drawing project” I guess, but really the important thing is I’m back. Yes, I know I’ll have to get a few weeks in-a-row in the bank before I’ll earn back any credibility even for myself, so maybe don’t pop the champagne just yet. And what exactly does, “Too much yacht rock” actually mean anyway? Well, if you haven’t noticed the world is getting quite weird and wiggily these days and I’ve needed an extra dose of something to keep the doom dogs at bay, so I’ve been listening to a lot of yacht rock, hiding behind a wall of sax solos and golden harmonies and catchy earworms. But couldn’t I be drawing while listening to TOTO? Well, yes, I could have been, but I did not, too busy wringing my hands in anticipation of whatever disaster could destroy “life as we know it”. Now, I am tired of all that worry and panic and will fall back into my thang; my drawing, my writing, maybe even, finally, get RS #10 finished. We will see. So without further ado, here’s this week’s drawing.

I have returned to my comfort zone of tribal masks to jumpstart my drawing life. This is one that I found on IG on the “tribalartforanewgeneration” feed. There is some really cool work presented there, so this will not be the last mask I will draw from there. The description from their post is “Himachal Pradesh Phagli Mask – Cedar”. An extra bit of research revealed that it is Himalayan. The beautiful woodgrain, expressive eyeholes and big smile pulled me in. The drawing was made with a simple black ballpoint pen.
